Default How can I keep old mail after creating new profile ?

I have a user in our network using Outlook 2003 POP mode and his outlook
file is giving increasing problems daily. Very slow to start and frequent
restarts. The pst file is about 3gb and contains many mails with
attachments. If I run scanpst on the file it shows errors which can be fixed
and the next week when I do the check again there are more errors which get
fixed again. I am getting sick of this so I believe that the best option is
to just create a new profile and start again with a brand new empty pst
file. Does this make sense ??
Problem is how to save the old mail in such a way that it could be readily
available for access should the user need to retrieve something.
If I just rename the pst file , then it 'could' be accessed but that's quite
a nuisance.
Is there any other way or application to save the old email and keep it
reasonable accessible ?

A new pst should fix it - rename the old pst to Archive 2008-04 and move it
to a folder on his local drive that will be backed up occasionally Open it
in his profile using File, Open. He can move his calendar and contacts to
the new pst along with new mail he needs to use. He can then close the old
pst and only open it when he needs to access data in it.

if the old pst is currently stored on a network drive, movei t to his local
drive - network use is not supported and often causes corruption. The pst
could be in a roaming profile, but due to the size (and the sync time
required), its better not to store it in the folders that are copied to the
server.
