Default position of text in table

Wondering if anyone else has had issues centering text vertically in word
tables.
I have tried right clicking on Cell Allignment and select centering, but
table remains unchanged. All the the text is vertically alligned to the top
of the table even if I select middle or bottom.

You may have other settings in your table row hat conflicts with and wins
over the middle or bottom alignment.

For example, if your row has a fixed height and you have space after defined
in Format Paragraph, the amount of space may prevent the text from being
moved down.
