I have a valid Microsoft Office CD from my employer. I
was given this about a year ago, and was told that it was a legal/valid to install it on my home computer, under a license between my employer and Microsoft. I had no problems loading this software on my home computer. I have no reason to believe that this is an illegal disc. However, I recently purchased a new home computer. I am in the process of getting rid of Computer A, and loading all necessary files and software onto Computer B. When I tried to load office onto computer B, the program asked for the Product Key, which I have, and which it accepted during the loading process. However, the next day, I went to use Excel, and it asked for the product key again. I typed it in again, and this time I was told that it was an invalid product key. I know that this is not true. It gives me the same error message when I try to use any of the Office products (power point, etc.) So I tried to get support from Microsoft. I refuse to pay for support, for a product that I know is valid. So I tried E-mail support, but their site asked for the Product ID. I was able to obtain the Product ID for Excel from computer A, but when I typed it in to the support web site, the web site told me that it was an invalid product ID. Without the product ID number, the Microsoft suppoort site will not accept my question. So I am reduced to trying this news group thing, and seeing if anybody will actually respond to this. Does anybody know what is wrong, and what I can do? Craig |

How do you know the license key is valid? Just because your ex ?) employer
say so? It seems you should have your employer validate the key. If it won't validate your employer has not given you a correct key and you will have to buy a new copy of OFFICE. Also the key may only be valid on the first computer installed and if you buy a new computer it may no longer be valid. Again, you should check with your employer as MS is not likely to help for free. "garfield-n-odie" wrote in message ... Hi, Craig. Thanks, this article did help. When I removed Microsoft Works (that came pre-loaded with Computer B), the problem went away. Craig "garfield-n-odie" wrote: Hi, Craig. BTW, are you trying to type in a product ID code, or a CD
Key? The product ID code is totally different than the Key needed to install the product. ALSO is this OfficeXP, or what? Include details please! Office XP will have to be validated by calling Microsoft. You can try the online activation wizard, but you'll probably end up calling them anyway. -----Original Message----- How do you know the license key is valid? Just because your ex ?) employer say so?
