Default How do I renumber footnotes after one has been deleted?

My footnotes won't renumber correctly after one was deleted. I've tried
renumbering staring at 1 but that isn't working. I don't have any section
breaks. Any suggestions?

Are you tracking your changes?

Footnotes don't work well with tracked changes, because the deleted footnote
is still "there." It doesn't show, but Word knows it's still there, so it
counts the deleted footnotes when it calculates the numbering.

Accepting the changes might fix the numbering problem -- if you can do that.

I hope this helps.

Did you try update all fields (Ctrl-A + F9)?
