Default header footer how do i make the text show up lighter than doc

How do I make the text show up lighter than the rest of the document. I know
how to decrease the size but the header/footer still shows up as dark as the
original document. I want it lighter. I am currently using 2007

Change the font color of the text in your header.

You could select all the text (etc.) and make the Color gray (there
are several shades of gray, or you can make your own).

Easiest is to change the font color of the Header/Footer styles, eg to some gray shade as suggested or blue. This also ensures a consistent look throughout.
