Default How do you turn off those annoying on-screen widgets?

Word 2007. If I select a block of text I then cannot move it because
this irritating popup window appears with formatting commands. I can't
tell you how many times I've torn my hair out trying to figure out how
to drag select the text in a way that moves that annoying popup out of
the way.

Is there a way to turn that thing off?

Uncheck 'Show mini-toolbar on selection' in Word Options.

I don't seem to have any problem with it anyway. If I select a block of
text, I can right or left click on the selected block and move it without
any bother from the mini-toolbar popup.

What is it that is stopping you from moving your selected block?

I know what she is talking about. The mini toolbar hovers over the text
you're trying to move, so instead of being able to click on the selected
block of text, you end up formatting it in a manner in which you never
intended. One of Microsoft's bonehead ideas, if you ask me. I'm a writer,
and that doggone thing is a pain in the neck when I'm trying to move text
around.

I turned mine off long ago because it was always in the way--and I DO mean
ALWAYS.

No it doesn't. It does if you right-click-let go. It does NOT if you
right-click-hold down. Assuming you are talking about Word 2007....
