*Another* OLK 2002 sendmail/SMTP problem
After reading thru most of these posts and getting no satisfaction... I'm
running Outlook 2002 on XP Pro SP2, and within the last week, cannot send (most) email. I can send plain-text messages with no attachments, but no HTML- or rich text-coded mail, nor plain-text with small attachments. I can receive. To cut Brian Tilman off at the pass, my smtpauth settings are correct, I'm sending thru port 587 (per Earthlink), and Windows firewall has both 587 and Outlook excepted. No antivirus. Error messages from OLK are 800CCC67 and 800CCC0F, "421 incoming data timeout" from the smtp server. Suggestions or solutions? Thanks. |

Well, 0x800CCC67 means "service not available", meaning that Outlook connected to the SMTP server and was told "not now - try again later". The other error is usually caused by anti-virus software that's scanning your messages. Turn off A/V scanning of mail. -- Jeff Stephenson Outlook Development This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights |

Also, why would the server tell me "not now" only on html mails or mail with attachments? I can send plain-text only. thanks, - S - |

I can send plain-text only. thanks, Do you have any anti-virus on your system at all? If so, did it initially install with email scanning that you then turned off? If so, some A/V programs don't really turn their scanning off when you uncheck the option. You apparently need to uninstall A/V, reboot, then reinstall without the scanning options. If that isn't the case, do you have a firewall that scans email? I think I've seen some posts about firewalls that do that. If *that* isn't the case, could you turn on diagnostic logging (see http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q300479) and post the OPMLog.log file after you get one of these errors? -- Jeff Stephenson Outlook Development This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights |

Thanks Jeff,
No, there's never been antivirus on this machine, and my router firewall is not configured to scan email. Turned on logging, then sent one plaintext message (successfully) and one html-format email (unsuccessfully). Here is the log of that (cut the Earthlink UCE message so the post is small enough): 2005.03.18 22:49:15 Logging Started (level is LTF_TRACE) 2005.03.18 22:49:15 Successfully initialized the resource Thanks Jeff, No, there's never been antivirus on this machine, and my router firewall is not configured to scan email. Turned on logging, then sent one plaintext message (successfully) and one html-format email (unsuccessfully). Here is the log of that (cut the Earthlink UCE message so the post is small enough): Well, you're definitely timing out - once, the server even said basically "you're taking too long" and dropped the connection. Does this happen on *any* HTML mail you send, no matter how small? Do you have any Outlook add-ins installed? Did anything get installed or changed on the computer just before this started happening? I've never known Outlook to have this problem all by itself - I'm suspecting some outside "help"... -- Jeff Stephenson Outlook Development This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights |

And interestingly, on the same connection (tho on a different machine: Win 2K, Outlook 2000) I can send HTML mail or anything else without problems. I didn't install any add-ins... the only thing I can think of that changed prior to this is I activated Office (I had reinstalled it). Prior to the problem my Outlook startup screen showed "unistalled version/unknow user". It's possible the problem began right after activation. - S - |
