Unable to open MS Access '97 databse

When opening an Access '97 format database in Access 2007. I get the below
error:

The Microsoft Office Access database engine could not find the object
'Database'. Make sure the object exists and that you spell its name and the
path name correctly.

Opening the same database in Access '97, I get:
The Microsoft Jet database engine could not find the object 'Database'.
Make sure the object exists and that you spell its name and the path name
correctly.


I have tried the standard repairs, compact. Even creating a new blank mdb
and importing the tables / data without luck.

Is there a way of saving / repairing this database ?
If it matters. The mdb is just over 10mb in size. and other mdbs work fine.

I don't believe that Access 2007 can open up an Access 97 database.

Sounds like some seriously corrupt system tables. See

or both. There are commercial database salvage services which might be able to
help (referenced at Tony's and Allen's sites). Some corruption is alas
unrecoverable!

If you wrote your A97 databases in such a way that they can be
converted to A2K format without error, use A2K, A2K2 (Office XP) or
A2K3 (if available) to convert the file to the A2K or later format.
Access 2K7 can run databases directly that are in A2K format and
later, but not those in A97 format. A2K7 can still read links to
tables stored in A97 databases. The A2K7 help for converting
databases also suggests using an auxiliary A2K3 database in order to
convert A2K7 databases back to A97. Note that the A2K database will
have to be in a Trusted Location if VBA is involved. I don't like
compromising the security of the computer that way, but I have not yet
discovered a satisfactory workaround to having the database in a
Trusted Location.
