Default Data Assistant

Thanks very much for any help.

I had a Win XP Pro SP2 corruption from which I am recovering. I
elected to reinstall Windows into the same directory, then went about
reinstalling my software. When I try to run Powerpoint, I get a
message that an error occurred and the program crashes. If I open
Microsoft Office Application Recovery after that, it tells me an
instance of Excel is running. I believe the problem may be related to
Office Data Assistant add-in, a toolbar for which opens before
Powerpoint crashes. The problem is that I can't figure out how to
uninstall Data Assistant. It isn't in any of the usual places. What's
more, all the Microsoft links to download it are dead.

Thanks for any suggestions.

First and foremost try detect and repair of Office (aasuming you are
using Office 2003). To do this from any office applications, try this:

HELP, DETECT and REPAIR

Sit back and watch office automatically resolves any missing/corrupt
files.

Let us know if this worked.

Sorry ... I forgot to mention that I've done a Detect and Repair and
also a Reinstall. Neither fixed the problem.

Never mind ... I figured it out.

Because I had done a Windows XP re-install and basically reinstalled
my apps on top of themselves, there was a folder in Program
Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared for Data Assistant from my
previous installation. I deleted that folder and now PowerPoint
doesn't crash.

Thanks anyway.
