Default Customizing Office 2003 Settings

Hi,

I am trying to customize the settings in Word 2003 using the custom
maintenance wizard. Specifically, I need to change some of the Tools |
AutoCorrect |AutoFormat settings;
the Tools | AutoCorrect, Smart Tag settings; and the Tools | Options | Track
Changes settings. I do not see these options exposed in the CMW, and need
to know the registry settings I need to add to toggle these options for all
users.

Thanks,

Tom Felts

Default Customizing Office 2003 Settings

Hello Tom,

You can change these settings at the Step 7 of 18 in CMW.

For example: At the Step 7 of 18 in CMW

Microsoft Office Word 2003
- Tools | AutoCorrect ¡*
- AutoCorrect
- AutoFormat as you type

Microsoft Office 2003
- Tools | AutoCorrect Options ¡* (Excel PowerPoint and Access)
- Smart Tags

You can also open Group Policy Object Editor to check if all the settings
you want to change are available in the Office Administrative Templates.

1. Click Start Run, type GPEDIT.MSC and press Enter
2. Expand User Configuration, and right click on Administrative Templates,
and then click Add/Remove Templates
3. In Add/Remove Templates dialog box and then click Add button
4. Choose all available Office Administrative templates in the list, such
as OFFICE11.ADM, EXCEL11.ADM, WORD11.ADM etc., and then click Open
5. Click Close to close Add/Remove Templates dialog box
6. Then, you can expand the Microsoft Office 2003, Microsoft Office Word
2003 or other Office Administrative Templates to find if the settings you
want to change exist.

Hope this helps.

Default Customizing Office 2003 Settings

Sorry I wasn't more clear. I know about the things you mention. I even
have the xls file that lists all of the Office 2003 Group Policies. The
issue is that the settings I need to customize are not relected in the
Word11.adm file. So I need to create a custom adm file (which I have the KB
on, so I don't need that reference.)

What I need is the specific info on how to set the settings I mentioned.
Are they under HKCU or HKLM? What format are they (dword, binary, etc) and
what are the specifics on modifying each setting?

Again, the specific settings a
Tools | AutoCorrect |AutoFormat settings (I need to uncheck certain
Styles);
the Tools | AutoCorrect, Smart Tag settings (I need to uncheck the 'Label
text with Smart Tag' setting; and the Tools | Options | Track
Changes settings. (I need to change INsertions to Double-Underline, and Use
Balloon - Only for Comments\Formatting.

Thank you for anwering my question, in advance.

Jeez,

It is actually a simple issue. I just need access to the information. I
have written a number of these before. I don't think it is appropriate to
take the lazy way out and say 'it is too complicated'. It's not. Its just
a question of access to data. If you cannot provide that access, or are too
lazy to find it, just say so. We pay through the nose as it is for SA. I
don't believe we should have to pay even more for simple data.

Default Customizing Office 2003 Settings

Hello Tom,

I truly understand your concern about this issue. However, I have searched
both internal and external knowledge base but failed to find any useful
information to your specific requirements.

For example, "Track Changes" settings are stored in the following registry
key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\W ord\Options

However, there is no such a tool to determine which exact key controls
which exact setting in "Track Changes".

For more general information about Word options and where they are stored,
I recommend you refer to the following article:

822005 How to reset user options and registry settings in Microsoft Office
Word 2003, Microsoft Word 2002, and Microsoft Word 2000
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=822005

Due to the limitation of resources and troubleshooting means in the managed
newsgroups, recommend you directly contact CSS or Advisory Services to get
more qualified assistance for your specific requirements, as they are
really out of our support ability.

You kindly understanding is greatly appreciated.
