Default Pressing F9 in Word 2002 doesn't update a linked graphic

I have numerous documents I created in Word 97 that use the Insert and Link feature to link a field to a file containing a screenshot. In Word 97 pressing F9 would update these in the document if the screenshot changed. Pressing F9 doesn't update that link in Word 2002 with pictures inserted with the Insert and Link option. I does work if I only select the Link option. What is the difference between Insert and Link and Link? And why doesn't pressing F9 on inserted and linked pictures doesn't update it? Any way to enable this so it functions like it used to? Thanks,

Jared

G'day "Jared" ,

The Insert and Link is a halfway *******ization. As it has its own
copy, it doesn't feel that it has to update. The link is just there
for reference.

Hi =?Utf-8?B?SmFyZWQ=?=,

to link a field to a file containing a screenshot. In Word 97 pressing F9 would update
these in the document if the screenshot changed. Pressing F9 doesn't update that link
in Word 2002 with pictures inserted with the Insert and Link option. I does work if I

I just tested, and it works here with no problems what-so-ever...

The difference between "link" and "insert and link" is that the latter saves a copy of
the picture in the Word document (just as if you'd inserted it), but also maintains a
link to the original (so that you can update it).

It's possible that something in the documents is damaged, preventing the links from
updating properly. Word 97's graphics interface was particularly unstable...

If you copy the field code (everything between the { } brackets), press Ctrl+F9 to
insert a new pair of brackets, then paste the field code into them, does this update
properly? (Use Alt+F9 to toggle the field codes on/off)
