Forced in what way? Sounds like you have docx added to Level1Remove registry
key. As docx isn't blocked by default, you only raised security this way. Opening .docx attachments directly from Outlook 2007
I have the same problem. This is not an issue that is fixed by Level1Remove.
These are the steps I follow and the errors I receive. 1) Open an email with an attachment that is a Word 2007 document saved in ..docx format. 2) Single-click on attachment. 3) Try to "Preview file" 4) Fail with This file cannot be previewed because of an error with the following previewer: Microsoft Office Word previewer To open this file in its own program, double-click it. 5) Double-click on attachment 6) Given option to 'Open', 'Save', or 'Cancel' 7) I choose 'Open' 8) Word 2007 opens and tries to open the attachment 9) Fail with Word experienced an error trying to open the file. Try these suggestions. * Check the file permissions for the document or drive. * Make sure there is sufficient free memory and disk space. * Open the file with the Text Recovery converter. ({truncated path to document}) 10) Ignore error and click 'OK' 11) Go back to Outlook 2007 12) Right-click on Word 2007 attachment 13) 'Save as...' anywhere you wish 14) Double-click newly saved Word 2007 document 15) Word 2007 takes focus and tries to open the attachment 16) Fail with Word experienced an error trying to open the file. Try these suggestions. * Check the file permissions for the document or drive. * Make sure there is sufficient free memory and disk space. * Open the file with the Text Recovery converter. ({truncated path to document}) 17) Ignore error and click 'OK' 18) Use fancyofficebutton = 'Open' to browse to the file location 19) Fail with Word experienced an error trying to open the file. Try these suggestions. * Check the file permissions for the document or drive. * Make sure there is sufficient free memory and disk space. * Open the file with the Text Recovery converter. ({truncated path to document}) The file permissions are fine as they are being inherited. There is plently of hard disk free space and plenty of RAM. I have also tried renaming the file. I can rename it, but I still can't open it. The person who sent it is running the same version of Office (Microsoft Office Word 2007 (12.0.6212.1000) SP1 MSO (12.0.6213.1000)) I have and it opens on his system just fine. However, if I take the attachment he sent me, attach it to a new message and send it back, he cannot open the attachment I sent him with the same problems I have. Any hotfixes for that? -Jason "Roady [MVP]" wrote: Forced in what way? Sounds like you have docx added to Level1Remove registry key.
