Hello,

I'd downloaded a copy of Office 2007 off the internet for a client this past
June, he bought "Home Student Edition Office 2007" and we used the product
key from the card... now, it's popping up trial is about to expire. He's
hopping mad that it isn't continuing even though he has the software and has
already entered the key code.

Is there something we're missing... do we need a different copy of the
software in order to work?

I myself, personally have a full copy of the software which I obtain at a
Microsoft event back in 2007, would it work with his product key code?

Please advise what the problem is, it order to assist my client?

Thanks,

D. Morales

Are you saying you/client purchased H&S version via an internet site and
downloaded it?

Did you first uninstall any Trial version and its Activation assistant and
reboot prior to installing H&S
No your version wont work with that key

Hi DL-

Please provide me the link to download the actual media/software so that we
can activate his software. I'd appreciate it.

No DL-

He didn't purchase the software over the site... he bought the product key
code through me, and of course MS doesn't include the media... so it has to
be downloaded from off the net... and apparently the only one I saw was the
trail copy.

Is there a full copy somewhere to install the H&S copy?

I'm missing something BIG here. I've missed stuff before, but it's usually
details, but what I'm missing is the apples in the apple pie when I miss a
dash of brown surgar or hint of cinnamon.

I bought a full service version of XP Premium on line, downloaded
immediately and pulled the Product Key from my Inbox to complete the
Install. I'm pretty sure they hit my American Express card before any of
this could proceed. They also followed the download with a CD in the mail --
I can't say either way if I paid extra or not for the CD.

Granted, I downloaded the OS, and that is different than the Office Suite.

But, I don't understand how anybody would need to go to a third party to get
a Product Key while downloading an application from the MSoft Website. What
important factor has escaped me this time?

Whatever I'm missing, the OP's customer appears to have downloaded the Free
Trial Version, and the OP probably should refund any money he received by
selling a Product Key.

Thanks DL-

That's what I was looking for... guess my customer should remove what he has
on his machine, download, install this one and enter his key?

Thanks!

Jeffery,

As a reseller - Microsoft has changed how they sell their OEM software...
they don't sell the media anymore. Only the product key (which is the vital
key to activate and install the software) - so, they sell a credit card
thingy with a product key on it, and you go to the site which DL stated above
and download that software so that you can install and activate the program.

I hope this makes some sense to you... it's MS way of saving a tree now and
then.

Some Vendors, at least in the UK, sell MLK (Media Licence Keys) this is a
key only
These are authorised MS suppliers, not dodgy suppliers.
They are designed for system builders who supply a preinstalled version of
Office and can thus be used to Activate the specific version of Office

I get that. That is the way I got XP -- except I also got a CD in the mail a
week or ten days later.

I had an old development kit copy of XP that worked fine until SP2 came
around, then it was flagged as an invalid installation through the
Authentication process. In any case, I suffered through various difficulties
until SP3 came out, then knuckled under and paid for XP. I bought it online,
they sent an e-mail with the Product Key that I simply pasted it into the
boxes that are provided for input.

Are you saying that YOU are a reseller, you sold a key to a guy that
downloaded the product, except he downloaded the Trial Version (I assume in
error because the trial version is offered free) and used your key to
activate it? It that's the case, then I'm starting to get this all dialed
in.
