Norton Internet Security adds spam warning info to the subject line
Hi,
I'm using Norton Internet Security to protect my PC. When I receive email that is 'suspicious', NIS will give this email message a 'stamp'. This stamp (called 'Spamwaarschuwing' in Dutch) is put in front of the real subject info on the subject line (for instance: "Spamwaarschuwing: Our appointment"). You do have the possibility to 'learn' NIS not to put the spam stamp in the subject line, next time you receive an email from the same person/company. However, the current subject line does contain this annoying extra spam message (so, it's already 'polluted').. My question: is there a possibility to 'edit' the subject line, once the email is received in OE? I was thinking (and have tried too) to edit the ..dbx folder(s) that contain(s) messages with such modified subject lines, but that doesn't seem to work. Are there other possibilities I can try out? Drag the message from the OE message list and drop it on your desktop. Then open the desktop copy in Notepad and change the subject line and Save. Now drag the edited message from the desktop back into the OE folder. You can then delete the original unedited copy. -- ----Please post questions and replies in the newsgroups---- Tom Koch - MVP for Internet Explorer and Outlook Express Awareness is free. Uninstall NIS. Norton AntiSpam (part of NAV, which is part of NIS) is the
source of all your angst and it cannot be uninstalled or disabled. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE) Geert Vancompernolle wrote: ...Are there other possibilities I can try out? |

That worked! I'm willing to take the 'detour' for the few messages I want
to change... Thanks Tom! "Tom Koch" wrote in message ... In , Geert Vancompernolle typed: My question: is there a possibility to 'edit' the subject line, once the email is received in OE? Sort of. BTW, you can make this a bit faster if Notepad is running. Drag the
message from OE and drop it directly into Notepad. Save the edited file to the desktop, then drag that into OE. Thanks go to Robert Adwinckle for pointing out the drag/drop directly into Notepad in a different thread. -- ----Please post questions and replies in the newsgroups---- Tom Koch - MVP for Internet Explorer and Outlook Express Awareness is free. I didn't know you could do that either.

Interestingly enough, that doesn't work for me. If I try to drag a message from OE to
Notepad, I get the not allowed symbol (circle with line). I can drag a message from OE to a Windows folder. I can then drag the EML file from the Windows folder to Notepad, but not directly from OE to Notepad. I'm running XP SP1. Might this be a new feature in SP2? (If time permits, I'll be installing SP2 this weekend.) -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Tom Koch" wrote in message ...
