Setup Yahoo! POP3 email account in OE
My question is about: How do I configure Outlook Express
for POP access? ISP: I'm on a server at work Email Client: Outlook Express Type your feedback he I can receive, but not send my Yahoo! email. I have followed the instructions exactly to setup an account on my Outlook Express 6 and my Outlook 2003 at work. Error messages from OE are as follows: The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'Yahoo', Server: 'smtp.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E Thanks for your help. I'm giving up on hotmail, and wanted to switch to Yahoo! I bought the $20 package from Yahoo! that supposedly gives you POP3 access. Jeff |

Setup Yahoo! POP3 email account in OE
Hi Jeff,
Does your ISP provide an outgoing (SMTP) server? This server could be used in the Yahoo account to send mail. It would, however, show in a message's properties. -- Tim K. aka Kuay Tim MVP - (IE/OE) Lynnwood, WA * "jeff" wrote in message ... thanks for reply. yes, I did set it up to authenticate. any other ideas? -----Original Message----- wrote in message ... Setup Yahoo! POP3 email account in OE
In article , says...
My question is about: How do I configure Outlook Express for POP access? ISP: I'm on a server at work Okay, a private system... Email Client: Outlook Express Type your feedback he I can receive, but not send my Yahoo! email. I have followed the instructions exactly to setup an account on my Outlook Express 6 and my Outlook 2003 at work. Error messages from OE are as follows: The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'Yahoo', Server: 'smtp.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E Okay, MSOE says that it can't connect to 'smtp.mail.yahoo.com'. Can you ping the server? Can you get a banner by connecting with Telnet? It strikes me that a company network may actually block port 25 out through its border routers, and you just can't get their from here. I could certainly set up my little SOHO router so port 25 traffic out to the Internet is blocked; but it is too stupid to redirect that traffic to my MTA. But I could make it so that nobody connected to my router could send email out, except through my MTA. It's a piece of cake... Thanks for your help. I'm giving up on hotmail, and wanted to switch to Yahoo! I bought the $20 package from Yahoo! that supposedly gives you POP3 access. Check with your employer's IT staff. Or, if you think that they won't go for allowing it, just use the Yahoo! web access. You might fire off a suggestion to Yahoo! that they implement the RFC 2476 mail submission port, port 587. If they get enough requests, they just might do it. But even that will only work if your employer doesn't block port 587. If it is employer's policy not to use non-corporate mail servers, IT staff will notice a surge of port 587 outbound traffic, and block it, too. Whenever you are dealing with an employer, remember that the computer you are using is not your own (with some exceptions; but you would know if, if that were the case). You must adhere to your employer's policies to ensure continued employment. -- Norman ~Win dain a lotica, En vai tu ri, Si lo ta ~Fin dein a loluca, En dragu a sei lain ~Vi fa-ru les shutai am, En riga-lint |

Jeff Your ISP and/or company may not permit off-domain SMTP (port 25) traffic. That means you must use their SMTP server for outbound e-mails. Check with your ISP or corporate IT/IS department. One way to check is to "telnet smtpserver 25" to see if you can make a connection to an SMTP server that is *not* on a domain other than where you are connecting. -- __________________________________________________ *** Post replies to newsgroup.
