Default change date formatting

I'm using mail merge in publisher and accessing data in access. However the
data in access in showing one date format (english NZ) my regional settings
are showing as (english NZ) but when the data is mailmerged into publisher it
changes to a US format 10/22/05 instead of 22/10/05. I can't figure out why.
If I do the same mailmerge in Office it keeps the correct format which leads
me to believe its a setting in publisher but I can't seem to figure it out.
HELP PLEASE!!!

If you have the dates already in place in Access, changing the field to text might be
the solution. Don't know why Publisher would change the value.

Mary Sauer was very recently heard to utter:

Because Publisher does not support any kind of field formatting from the
database application.

Dates are stored internally in the database in a generalised format. When
the date is shown in table view, it is then that it is put into a
human-readable form, according to the layout specified on the field or in
regional settings.

Setting the field as text should allow Publisher to merge properly from it,
but it is nowhere near best practise, as date fields should be kept as date
fields. Exporting as CSV might be a slightly more agreeable solution.

I'm having a very similar problem where my data source is Excel and although
displaying the date correctly in Excel - in UK format - when the data is
merged into Publisher then the date format changes to US format. Any ideas
for this Excel to Publisher issue??

Thanks
Simon
