Thanks Ling Adams for your detailed & succinct answer...
Thanks Ling Adams for your detailed and succinct answer to a question I and
many others pondered in how to copy or repeat form values from one record to the next. In your reply to JaneM, “Preautopopulate from records” on 8-26-08, you brought out the simple example that “People doing "batch" data entries often find themselves entering ***some*** fields over and over again, and can benefit from the technique I offered.” I especially appreciated your intuition in diagnosing the question and providing a carefully worded summary interpretation of what you believed the person was referring to: “If, by ‘copying (autopopulating) data from the previous record’ you mean can you enter one record, move to a new record and have certain fields populated with the same values from the previous record, yes you can and yes, it'll require code.” You go on to explain precisely how this can be done. Note for readers who are interested in Ling’s full answer to this pre-auto fill question, please see “Preautopopulate Form Records” in Form Design, 8-26-08. I am surprised that this need to repeat form values from one record to the next is even being questioned as to why. In your reply you brought out the simple example that “People doing "batch" data entries often find themselves entering ***some*** fields over and over again, and can benefit from the technique I offered.” This “auto-fill” question has been raised and answered many times in the past.
