Default Spell Checker failure

I have a PC that will not activate Spell Checker in any Office XP
application. The Auto correct works as well as the grammar checker. When told
to repair or reinstall the spell checker, nothing happens. I have done a
"detect and repair", uninstalled the entire proofing feature and languages
and reinstalled and even uninstalled the entire Office Suite and reinstalled.
Nothing works and the error I get is "Word cannot find the spelling files
mssp3am.lex"

I can't even find that file on another PC that has a functioning spell
checker. Is there anyone that has seen this before and has successfully
resolved resolved it? By the way, we're running Office XP, SP-2. SP-3 has
not yet been approved at my company.

Hi D.,

Is this an English language edition of Office XP?
The spellcheck DLL would be MSSP3EN.LEX, only the
thesauraus in the standard release would have
MSTH3AM.LEX.

Is there an addin or a registry change that's been
set or an incorrect location in
Tools=Options=Spelling & Grammar=[Custom Dictionaries]

You might also want to check to see in Tools=Language
if you've selected a default language for which the
proofing tools are available/installed (look for the
'abc' icon next to the language choice). You can
also check in the Keyboard applet of Windows Control
Panel to see what the keyboard language you have installed
and selected is as well in
Start=Programs=Microsoft Office Tools for the
Set Language feature to see what's been enabled there.
