Opening Excel file from explorer

If I try to open an Excel file from Explorer, Excel starts and I end up with
a grey screen and "Ready" in the bottom left corner. If I start up excel and
open files via "File, open, then all works fine. Word powerpoint ect, all
work fine and open up OK via the Explorer route. How do I fix this please

In Excel, click on Tools | Options | General | uncheck the
"Ignore other applications" box | OK.

If the above doesn't help, then close Excel and re-register Excel
in Windows by clicking on Start | Run | Open: excel /unregserver
| OK | Open: excel /regserver | OK.
