Default Problem with Comcast? (Long)

I am not sure if this is the right board for this post. Is there a problem
between Outlook and Comcast? I recently started having trouble getting my
Comcast e-mail using Outlook 2K. I could look at my old e-mail or even my
Contacts, Calendar etc., but it crashed if I clicked Send/Receive or tried to
Send e-mail. And if I didn't do any of those things it crashed when I try to
exit the program. So I reinstalled Office 2K Pro and downloaded all the
updates to it and WinMe. It seemed to work fine until I today, when I
noticed that I wasn’t getting e-mail anymore. Now I have the same
instability problems with OL.

More details: I had been using both OL and Outlook Express OEX for quite
some time. My wife is also on the Comcast account with her own e-mail
address. She uses only OEX (she relies on her Palm for the address book
functionality). She would probably migrate to OL if there were a way to keep
her stuff separate. I wanted OL because of its functionality for my home
office. Then, shortly before the Office reinstall, I decided it was pretty
dumb to have the same e-mail pouring in to two "clients" one of which I
merely ignored except to go in at intervals and delete everything. So I
stopped Outlook Express from picking up my e-mail but left the Outlook
settings untouched. It might have been unrelated but the trouble with OL
soon began which led to the reinstall. Afterwards I figured disconnecting
Outlook Express was probably dumb so I resumed the dual e-mail setup using
both OL and OEX. Right now I can get my e-mail only on OEX or by going to
the Comcast website.

Comcast tech support consistently told that they do not "support" Outlook,
whatever that means. But at least they confirmed that my settings were
correct. They are exactly the same as for OEX, including leaving the e-mail
on the Comcast server. Am I missing something? Is there some problem
between OL and Comcast?

NEW: I now find that if I try to click Shutdown/Restart after OL crashes I
get the Blue Screen of Death. BTW, both OEX and OL are set up to "leave mail
on server."

Hi Al,
Did you every resolve this problem? I'm about to switch to Comcast for
internet service and want to make sure I won't run into problems using
Outlook for my email.

Hi Jane Photographer.

Yes, the problem went away. I am not entirely sure what I did but after
fiddling around a bit and some rebooting OL was working again. Both programs
use the same settings, at least in this part of the country. I doubt you
will have any problem.
