Default Snaking Columns

How to manually move a column break when it breaks too
soon, leaving extra space at the bottom of the first
column of a two column layout.

If your two-column section ends with a Continuous section break, Word will
balance the columns unless you:

a) Enable the Compatibility Option "Don't balance columns..." OR

b) Insert a manual column break (Ctrl+Shift+Enter) where you want the column
to break OR

c) Use paragraph formatting ("Keep with next," "Keep lines together") to
control text flow.
