Default gantt chart in excel

I've created a gantt chart that shows the time expired between application
and approval, but it encompasses 3 years and there isn't paper big enough to
be able to tell what the dates are. Also two or three were never approved so
there is nothing to indicate the application date. Is it possible to plot
points for the application date and (where applicable) the approval date and
even print the date (allbeit in small font) at each point?
