OL2000 Hanging, receiving, sending and opening mail problems

Recently, my Outlook 2000 has been having multple problems. It constantly shuts down and freezes my computer up entirely. It takes forever to send and receive even just one e-mail. I can't open e-mail without it taking ten minutes to open just one and forget about replying, because I can never get the e-mail open. I have downloaded the SR-1 update; however, it has yet to help. Please advise, as I am ready to throw my computer out the door - it's driving me crazy!! Thank you in advance for any help!!
