Default Cannot Access Newsgroups

I went to creat the Go to "News" link in the Outlook
Toolbar Commands, but it is not there? I would
appreciate advice on how I can gain access to this "News"
link and access Newsgroups. The News Reeder is not
starting automatically either. Help appreciated. Bill

Default Cannot Access Newsgroup Reader In Outlook 03

I would like to add to my earlier post below. After
doing two system restores, I have learned the following:
In Outlook 2003 I am able to access "NEW" under Toolbar
Commands and place it in the GO menu and start the
Newsgroup Reader, but after using it and closing it down,
the NEWS link in GO is gone as is NEWS under Toolbar GO
Command. Once gone I cannot access the Newsgroup Reader
from Outlook and via a web site like Microsoft TechNet
where I get an error the Newsgroup Reader link is
unavailable. The only way I have been able to get it
back is to do a system restore. Help! Regards, Bill
..

try.. To get the News command back, go back to the Programs tab in Control
Panel | Internet Options and change the default newsreader to Outlook
Express. If OE prompts you to make it your default newsreader the next
time you launch it, click the "Don't ask me again" box and then click the
No button.

You may need to reset the menu or toolbar using Tools, customize.

Outlook doesn't have native news support and they removed the "Outlook
Newsreader" entry from Internet Explorer's list because people kept thinking
it was Outlook - and the blank listing causes problems.

Unless you were already reading e-mails and had Outlook open, wouldn't
it be easier and faster to just open Outlook Express itself? OE is the
NNTP (network news transfer protocol) client, not Outlook. If you need
quick 1-button access, just put a shortcut to OE in the QuickLaunch
toolbar. Having to open Outlook to then click on a News button to then
open OE seems a lot of wasted resources and time.

Yes it would. I did not realize OE was the reader. I had not used OE since
installing Outlook a couple years ago. Looks like I'm good to go for
accessing newsgroup via Outlook and OE. Thanks for the posting. Bill
