Default Outlook Address Book & Outlook Contacts

Are the Outlook Address Book and Outlook Contacts the same or different entities. I've Imported all my contacts, and they are visible. But when creating a new email and trying to select the appropriate email recepient address, I get an error that there are "No contacts listed." What have I done wrong?

The Outlook Address Book does not exist. It is simply a dynamic view of the
electronic addresses in your Contacts Folder.
You did not provide enough information for us to diagnose what you did
wrong. You didn't tell us what you did. I would have to guess that the error
messages means that the Contacts Folder you are displaying in the Outlook
Address Book View is not the same one into which you imported the Contacts.

Russ- The following is the best way I can explain what's happening:

1) from the Outlook Inbox, I click NEW to create a new email message.
2) I then click the TO for selection of recepient 's address
3) I get the SELECT NAMES screen, and click the down arrow on the SELECT NAMES FRON drop down menue.
4) I'm offered two choices.... Contacts or Outlook address book.
5) I click CONTACTS and get a blank screen.... same if I type a name in.
6) I click Outlook Address Book and see the error "No entries in address book."
7) I go back to the first screen and click the CONTACTS BUTTON. Several folders of my address book which I Imported from Outlook Express are there. I can click one open, then click a specific person. But the only way I can get that address into the TO line of my new message is to copy and paste.

From the above, can you tell what I have, or might have done wrong? thanks, Robt

If you have Contacts in the Contacts folder but they are not accessible when
you click on the To button, check these settings:

Make sure the Contact folder is enabled as an email address book. Right
click the Contacts folder, choose Properties then Outlook Address Book. Is
the box to enable as email address book is checked?

If this is grayed out...

Go to Tools | Email Accounts, choose View or change existing directories or
address book. Is the Outlook Address Book present? If it isn't listed, add
it and close and restart Outlook. If it is listed, then remove it and close
then restart Outlook and repeat these steps to add it.
