KitchenAid coffee grinder was exactly what wewanted. Works great! Easy to clean.Reasonably priced.
After using this grinder, it astounds me that I managed to mess with a blade grinder for so many years! This grinder produces a consistent, wonderful grind every time. It is less messy than other grinders since it uses glass containers rather than plastic, which always seems to have static. The bean chamber holds a substantial amount of beans, and seals airtight when you place the top on, allowing the beans to be left in the grinder. The grind can be set to a nice fine espresso grind, all the way up to something that looks more like garden mulch! The machine weighs 12 pounds, and is very well made. Though it stands taller than most blade grinders, the extra space taken up is worth it to have this machine. It looks and feels more expensive than what I paid.I had stopped using my Cuisinart blade grinder because it seemed to be taking longer and longer to grind the beans, and the machine was heating up, and I also kept having to open it up to check the grind. The new KitchenAid is very quiet, fast and doesn't heat the coffee up at all. You can see the ground coffee fall into the lower chamber and know what you are getting. And, there is a switch so that I don't have to stand there and hold the button! One reviewer complained of the grinder getting clogged, but mine has not clogged at all. I would imagine that any burr grinder would clog if beans that are too oily (french roast) or certain flavored beans are placed in it. I use a non-oily, medium-dark roast peaberry bean.I hesitated to order a grinder that cost $170, but when I found out that it came with a 2 year warranty, decided to dive in. THIS MACHINE IS WORTH EVERY PENNY! I can see that it saves not only time, but money, since the grind isn't full of too-large chunks of unground coffee. I will probably never need to buy another grinder. This one looks as if it is bulletproof and made to last. I wish I had bought it many moons ago!
Since I have only had this grinder for a few days now I can't speak for its longevity. The solid construction does, however, lead me to believe this unit should last a long time.My last grinder, which I thought was decent at the time, was a Cuisineart That I got at Costco. It lasted about two years before dying an undignified death. The search for a replacement brought me to Amazon where I found this unit. I was a bit reluctant to spend this much money, but after reading a few of the reviews and remembering the cheap plastic look of my previous unit I took the plunge.Let me say right off if your idea of a good cup of coffee is opening a can of Folgers or buying coffee beans that have been on the shelf at the local store for who knows how long then this grinder is definitely not for you. If, however, your morning coffee is a continuing search for that perfect cup then consider buying this grinder. The grind looks to be very consistent and the glass receptacle makes for easy cleanup. The flavor of the brew is excellent. The first cup I drank after getting this grinder showed me just how bad the previous grinder really was. The grinder even looks great sitting on the counter. If that morning cup is a passion to be savored with you I think you will be happy with this grinder.
It's built like a tank and it's quiet so you won't wake up the whole house with it, which is very nice. It took a bit of doing to find just the right setting and amount of coffee to use in order to get the coffee exactly the way I like it, but now with that out of the way I'm very happy with it.
I have had this grinder for almost 2 years and I love it. The uniform grind makes for a more yummy cup of coffee. It functions well, is made of quality materials, feels nice and solid, cleans up well, no plastic bins to cause static or get scratched and worn looking. It's a machine that will last for years and years (mine looks brand new and I use it daily), so overall it is an excellent value.
Freshness for the true coffee connoisseur. This classic-style grinder provides optimal aroma and flavor for your coffee, grinding beans to your preferred fineness level with precision stainless steel burrs. Model KPCG100OB.
