pub98 to pdf then a print problem
Hi Gang!
Created a new newsletter with pub98, converted to pdf and uploaded it to the site at http://tropicalaudubon.org/pdf/072004.pdf My concern is, when I print out to my laser (NEC Superscript870) the margins are off. The left margin is like an inch, and the right margin is like a quarter inch. Both left and right have always been set at a half inch. On screen the original pub98 file and the pdf margins look okay and centered. But the printout is whacked for me on the last two issues I've created. Thoughts on the cause?? Could it be the infamous "printer driver" solution? Or the equally infamous "video driver" quagmire? Or some setting in pub98 or adobe pdf distiller that I should adjust?? FYI: there have been no driver changes on my machine (WinXP) or software changes with any of these components used to make this pub98 newsletter every month for the last... three years, I'd guess. If anyone really cares, can you try printing out just one page of the pdf listed above and see what the margins look like? I'd appreciate some outside perspective Thanks in advance amigos e amigas! Did you print without the print option "shrink oversized pages to paper size" being CHECKED? With my print screen that is an option before printing which I never used to use (since the printshop just runs the pdf as is). But I tried that option when I noticed the problem and the margins are about what you note - if I select that setting. weird ) and thanks again Steve in NC |

I had to check what options I had selected. My "shrink" option is clear.

pub98 to pdf then a print problem
Steve,
FWIW since I have a NEC Superscript 1450, using XP drivers, I decided to print your file and got the same result. Page 3 with the bordered text box is very measurable with the right margin at .5 inch, and the left at .75 inch. The results were the same with and without the print option of 'rotate & center". Thanks for the effort and reply!! I could live with those margins better, altho they're still favoring the left side slightly... Guess it's just me or something... My mom always said nobody would try to make it as perfect as I would DavidF wrote: Steve, FWIW since I have a NEC Superscript 1450, using XP drivers, I decided to print your file and got the same result. Thanks Don for looking, trying and doing!
Guess maybe it's just me. The printshop remarked that the address space (as seen on page six) got smaller a couple issues ago, which made me keep looking at this margin issue as a possible cause, cause that address space has been the same size forever...
