Default Hyperlinks suddenly not working in OE mail

The computer has Windows XP Home (with SP2) - not running IE 7. Links in
incoming mail appear to be hyperlinks, and when the cursor is held over
them, the link shows up in the lower left corner, indicating that if I
click, IE will go to that page.

However..... clicking doesn't work. Not single click, not double click.
RIGHTclick/copy on the link will allow copy so that the link can be pasted
into an IE address line, but this is not the way it should work.

Any thoughts on this?

I don't see the relationship of the link being in the lower left corner. It
can be anywhere in an e-mail. That said:

From:
http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

If nothing happens when you click a link:
Open Windows Explorer.
Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol (NOT URL:Internet Shortcut)
and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Select 'open'.
Click Edit.

"Application used to perform this action" should read:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome
(Check the path to iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the
double quotes.)

DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:

#1:
"%1",,-1,0,,,,
#2
IExplore
#3 (blank)

#4
WWW_OpenURL

URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same.

Sometimes it is necessary to uncheck Use DDE.

1. You click on a link and an IE window doesn't even open:

http://www.oehelp.com/ielnk.aspx

2. You click on a link and an IE window opens but it doesn't load: Try the following fix by MVP Kai Schaetzl =

Internet Explorer FAQ - Repair IE6 on Windows XP SP2:
http://iefaq.info/index.php?action=a...=31&artlang=en

Also see http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers/26.html

3. Installing the latest Cumulative Patch for IE may solve the problem as a side-affect. Check in at Windows Update.

OIC. For me, only the time it takes between clicking on the link, and the
window opening.

Just rest the mouse pointer over the link and look. That's a lot safer.

I'm not as concerned with being safe, as being able to click on a hyperlink
and go to that site.
It should work that way - it has always worked that way in the past. I just
need to know what to check to see why its not working now.

The *safe* post was from Frank to me, not you.

Did you do what I suggested in my first post? If you don't tell us what you
have tried, it is difficult to suggest something else.
