Default Publisher 2003 & Office Assistant

Hello-
I just installed Publisher 2003 and have begun receiving an error message every time I try to open any of the Office 2000 programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). The message reads: "The Office Assistant could not be started. Please repair the Assistant by running Office 2000 setup and selecting Repair Office 2000". When I open Publisher 2003 I get the error message: "There are no Office Assistant character files present on the system. Please run setup in Maintenance mode and install at least one character".

I have read about a similar problem in this discussion group, however, those people were all asking about XP. I have the OS 2000 and MS Office 2000.

This problem did not start showing up until I fixed a problem I had with clipart not showing up in Publisher 2003. That fix required me to go into regedt32 and change the LegacyAuthenticationLevel from reg_dword:0000001 to reg_dword:0000002. After I rebooted my machine the problem with the Office Assistant began.

I can go back in to regedt32 and change the LegacyAuthenticationLevel back to 0000001, but is this going to be an "either/or" situation? Either I get the clipart fixed or I get the Office Assistant fixed? Is there no resolution for both?

Thank you in advance.

No....that was going to be my next step, however, I didn't have time yesterday. I did do go through those steps today, though, and it fixed the problem. I was just amazed at the problems that came up after installing Publisher 2003....it was like one thing after another.

Thank you for all your help.

Fluky things happen sometimes - you just learn to roll with the changes.
