I can send but not receive email--how do I fix this?
This morning, I found that I could send, but not receive, email through my
accounts using Outlook 2003. I am able to receive incoming email messages, and I can get to the Internet. When I attempt to send a message, I get an error message stating: Error #0x80042109: Outlook is unable to connect to your outgoing SMTP email server." Here is what I've tried: 1. I called my Internet Service Provider, described the problem, and asked whether there were any problems in my area. No problems in my area were noted. They suggested I disable my Norton Antivirus Protection, shut the computer down, re-boot, and try to send again. I did this, but the problem remained. They suggested I contact Microsoft. 2. I called the Microsoft Help Desk telephone number I was given and explained the problem. The woman said I had three options--(1) contact the manufacturerer of my computer (I've been running this computer for the past six years without this problem, so I don't think it has to do with how Dell originally configured my computer); (2) contact Microsoft online (which I am doing); or (3) pay them $49 to work with me over the telephone. I discarded options 1 and 3, and here I am. So far, I've checked the Discussion Group entries for Email under "Send but Not Receive" but none of the suggested remedies there seemed to work. What is this error message (0x80042109) and how do I fix the underlying problem? |

What is this error message (0x80042109) and how do I fix the underlying problem? We are to guess WHO is your e-mail service provider? We are to guess WHAT is the IP name for the SMTP mail host? We are to guess HOW you connect to the SMTP host (port, SSL, SPA, etc.)? |
