Office 2007 install fails with a setup cannot continue message
I did several experiments yesterday comparing how Nero 7.5.7.0 was burning
on Windows XP and Windows Vista computers to see if I could work out what is different. Both computers have the same LGE GCE-4167B DVD-RW drive with the same level of firmware. When I burn on the on the XP machine, Nero reports various burn speeds throughout the burn cycle, commencing slowly (around 12X) until it reaches around 32X at the end of the burn. This seems correct to me because CDs are burnt starting from the inside tracks where the rotational speed is relatively slow compared to the outer tracks. To test this theory was correct, I burnt a 720MB avi file file (that uses nearly all the available disk) and that started at 12X and finished at 36X. I am sure that had this been a full disk, the outer tracks would have reached 40X - the maximum speed the drive burns to CD. On the Vista computer, this didn't happen. Nero reports that the drive is burning at 40X throughout the burn. My conclusion is that Nero is at fault when running on a Vista platform. However, it does seem to burn DVDs correctly - as was proved when I burnt Vista ISO. Had it messed up the VISTA burn, I would probably have got to this conclusion MUCH earlier! Terry "Philip" wrote in message ... I would agree as I'm also using Nero 7.5.1.1 "Terry Farrell" wrote: That seems to incriminate Nero then. Terry "TD" wrote in message ... Same thing here. Wrote the iso to cd using Nero - No go. Extracted to HD using isobuster and it installed. "Christian Wenz" wrote: Hi, "Don Awalt" wrote: I just logged in to say the same thing. I unpacked the ISO with WinRAR, and setup ran fine! just wanted to second that: I downloaded and burnt the ISO twice using Nero 7, and got the error Philip reported. Then I used 7-zip (http://www.7-zip.org/) to extract the contents of the ISO into a local folder and ran setup.exe from there -- and it all works just fine. Operating system: Windows XP Pro. So it has probably to do with the way the ISO is structured (?), not with Vista. Best regards Christian |

done any Nero work on Vista. Don
Your experience does seem to point the finger at the Office ISO: but it is strange that it works fine when burnt using an XP PC. There really doesn't seem to be a real conclusion to this. Terry,
Sure, there is a conclusion, skip Nero; use a simple;yet totally effective; FREE app from Terrabyte Unlimited. Burncdcc. Simple;free; can change speeds; and I've NEVER had one single problem burning iso's with it. period. Had an MVP show me burncdcc; it's the easiest and best iso burner out. Not once; has it failed to burn an iso correctly;not once; and I've burnt lots since b4 CPP. Jeff "Terry Farrell" wrote in message ... I've experienced the same problem everyone else has posted here using Nero 7.5 on Vista and XP. I used Nero 7.0 on my XP machine with no issues on the iso's. Everything is fine on both XP and Vista now. I suspect Nero 7.5 is the issue. -- sisnaz ------------------------------------------------------------------------ sisnaz's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?userid=19585 View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=627743 http://www.techarena.in |

Thanks Jeff. I'll certainly try Burncdcc: not that I have to burn ISOs that
regularly, but at least it works and I certainly don't trust Nero at the moment. Terry "Jeff" wrote in message ... Terry,
It's the best; simplest iso burner out there; free; and jeffproof-basically ya just browse to the iso-and it grabs it. It's got a slider to adjust your speeds;but after one or two times;and a bit of hesitancy;(was leery) I let it stay at default-"optimal" on the slider-not one single bad burn-not one. And it's a teeny app,(66 kb's) I just keep it on a flash, zipped; and whenever I need to use it-plug in my flash-BINGO. Jeff "Terry Farrell" wrote in message ... Thanks Jeff.
