Default make calculations work with one worksheet closed

Is it possible to make formulas work if only one worksheet is open? I am
trying to make some spreadsheets for an elderly person and I have to open
too many worksheets open for it to work. Lets say I have a worksheet
called Quarter. That sheet gets its information from a sheet called
Journal. Once the data is entered into the journal it gets transferred to
the Quarter sheet, but if I open up the Quarter sheet without the Journal
sheet open I just get value in the cells. Can I do something so that the
journal does not have to be opened and still get the info in the Quarter
sheet?

EXCEL 2007

Bob, I think the answer to that is no.

If you update the first Workbook without Worbook 2 being open it will not
populate across automatically.

However, if you update Worbook 1 without Workbook 2 being open when you do
open Workbook 2 you should get a Security Warning towards the top of the
EXCEL screen.

Click on Options . . . / select Enable this content and hit OK. This will
pull in any updates that may have been made in Workbook 1.

If my comments have helped please hit Yes.

Thanks.

I have a couple of workbooks at work that seem to do this. I enter data
into workbook 1 and save and close. I open up workbook 2 and the data is
there. Both files are on what we call the R drive, which is a networked
drive. Maybe because it is on a network drive?

Somebody somewhere in your organization seems to have allowed the automatic
update of the linked Workbooks.

If they are both on the same drive it would make things easier.

So why won't it work since both are in my documents? I'm a little confused.
