Severe bloating of Frontend DB with Access2007
We have encountered a problem in which a database is continually bloating
under Access2007. This has nothing to do with the contents of the db or any of the usual suspects, because I can duplicate the problem with a database that has nothing in it at all! The database increases in size 4K every 5 seconds. A 100MB database increases in size about 256K every 5 seconds. Yet not everyone experiences the problem! We have encountered conflicting stories from Microsoft as to whether or not this is a known problem. In any event, there has been no clue given as to the cause or a possible workaround. Right now, the "solution" is to tell users to close (with compact/repair) every hour! But since often the "user" may be an unattended workstation used to scan members in and out, this isn't real practical. |

I found that using a switchboard just opening and closing forms increases the
size. I use the compact on close. You may have some hardware issues that may not be Access?
Second, are there any virus, trojans, spywares? Scan the harddisk for errors, if possible scan the RAM memory modules for error with memtest utillities. They are avialable free from the internet sites. Note that not all virus, trojan, spywares can be detected.
Have you verify that the harddisk and memory are free from defects? Although power supply might be the culprit, but I doubt so. If is not a commonality, have you tried reinstalling Access or MS Office again? Or even reinstalling the OS and MS Office/Access again? There is too much evidence that it is an Access2007 problem.
It seems to affect databases orignally created by Access2003 (haven't tried earlier versions). I can create a db in Access2007 and it won't bloat. If I import objects from an Access2003 db, then bloating starts; even if I haven't actually done anything, such as cause code to run, etc. I've had one person from Microsoft say it was a recently reported bug and will be fixed in SP2. But this was contradicted by another Microsoft person, so I don't know. |

Let me repeat. This bloating occurs in an empty database! No objects at
all. No tables, no queries, no forms, no reports, no modules. As above, is bloating from 2003 format or 2007? So far, I only have use 2000 and 2002/XP format in 2007 development. Nothing on bloating. There of course, annoyances and inconsistancies but all could be solve by changing the format to 2007 accdb without any coding change or modifying of objects. You might want to try converting it to a 2007 format accdb than do a compact and repair under 2007 before importing the objects. I have yet to try to import objects like you did, but least it works for me. Will try to use A2003 if I have the time. I don't recall reading any similar problems in the newsgroups. I certainly haven't seen that problem myself. You mention Norton AntiVirus. Are these ACCDBs? Is Norton set to ignore ACCDBs/MDBs/ACCDEs/MDEs? Is this on one PC or multiple PCs? There is a brand new hotfix out which mentions a performance problem. That might make a difference.
