Default Reinstalling Office 2007

I had an illegal copy of MS Office 2007. I purchased a legal copy and when I
try to install it, I get an error message indicating that the program I am
trying to replace is more recent than the one I'm trying to install.

This one, maybe:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928218

"This article describes how to uninstall the existing 2007 Microsoft Office
system if you cannot uninstall it by using the Add or Remove Programs
feature (or Programs and Features in Windows Vista) in Control Panel. We
recommend that you verify that you cannot uninstall by using Add or Remove
Programs first."

Did you do a full uninstall of the illegal copy?

You currently have a service pack installed on your "illegal" version that
is later than the one you have on the "legal" installation CD. You must
uninstall the illegal Office totally using Programs and Features (or
Add/Remove programs in Win XP) and then install and update your new "legal"
installation.
