Expired MS 2007 uninstalled my valid MS 2003
Hello. I use Microsoft 2003, but during the spring semester of 2008 I had a
student trial version of 2007. At the end of the summer I chose not to purchase it and let it expire, but every time I went to open an Excel file the MS Office would open it with 2007 even though the file had been created in 2003 and even though my 2007 was not in use. This problem did not present itself with any other MS program such as Word, PowerPoint, etc., only with Excel. Today I decided to uninstall the student trial version of MS Office 2007 in order to disable MS 2007 entirely. MS Office 2007 proceeded to uninstal my 2003 while uninstalling itself. Why did it do this? My computer, Windows Vista, is asking me to reinstall MS2003 all over again from scratch. Thank you. |

It sounds like you upgraded (overwrote) your 2003 version rather than
install it in a separate location. You will need to insert the 2003 disks and install it again - *after* you make sure you have uninstalled all previously installed versions. -- JoAnn Paules MVP Microsoft [Publisher] Tech Editor for "Microsoft Publisher 2007 For Dummies" "HealYourLife" wrote in message ... Depends how you chose to install the Trial, the typical scenario would
involve it upgrading / removing your old version It doesnt matter what version was used to create a file, the 2007 can open the file You have to uninstall any Trial Version together with its Activation Assistant via add/remove, then reboot, Then either repair or reinstall your 2003 version "HealYourLife" wrote in message ... I had done the same thing. And when I chose not to upgrade it uninstalled
all my previous versions of word, excel, and outlook. How nice of them. And just for the record, I may not be savy enough or it didn't present itself, to let me choose a different place to install the trial. And if there was no notation advising me that IF I chose not to upgrade it would delete my previous versions unless I did install it in a different place. I have to tell you, I will NEVER do that again. And I will probably not upgrade either. No sense in giving someone my money that wants to bait and switch me. And not only that cause me more time and money. Right now I can't afford that. So no more trials for me. And I think I might be looking a MAC. "HealYourLife" wrote: Hello. No not really, I am in the process of purchasing a new laptop, a Dell, but I can tell you now I am not going that route. I will be inconvenienced due to my stupdity in thinking that I was doing something good for the company and deal with reloading my programs or hiring someone to come in and do it. And I will have the computer back up. Then Microsoft will have me as a spokesperson on why not to use them for anything. Word of mouth is a powerful tool.
