Office 97 install under WinXP Home Edition
I've recently upgraded to Win XP Home Editon from Win 98SE.
When I try to reinstall Office 97, I get an error: could not find SHELL.DLL . There were some indications, though vague, that this would be fixed with SP2, but I'm still getting the same error now that I've downloaded the latest service pack. Microsoft phone support won't touch this, as Office 97 is "obselete software". Is this a compatability issue? Every other post I've read indicates that Office 97 should install clean under Win XP. There are several sites out there that offer SHELL.DLL for download, but I am hesitant to muck with an otherwise functional OS. Any help? |
