Default Footnote Problem

I'm not sure this is the proper newsgroup so point me in
the right direction if I'm wrong. I've had this happen
two or three times now and it's driving us nuts.
Sometimes, the footnote notation will not superscript. It
stays in the footnote style but will not superscript as it
should. We've tried deleting the footnote and then
reinserting it. The only way to "fix" it, is to highlight
the footnote notation and then superscript it through
formatting. Help!

Make sure that the Footnote Reference style is defined as Superscript.

It is. This is one of those "sometimes it just stops
working" problems that I don't know how to fix.
Thanks

Default Footnote Problem

That is the hardest kind of problem to fix, and I'm afraid I've run out of
ideas.

A possible explanation would be that someone "Ctrl-Space"-d the notation
(that's the default shortcut for ResetChar, which removes any direct
font-formating property, and "accidentally" removes any character
styles, too). If that's the case, such a reference wouldn't show the
correct style information any more, and to correct it properly, you'd
simply reassign the style (footnote reference).

Good luck!

Default Footnote Problem

I would have thought this, too, Bob, but it sounds as if the problem is
occurring in newly created footnotes, and I can't think of any explanation
for that.
