Another question on the same lines. I understand that if you let your
mailboxes become too full your OE could become corrupt, sometimes after the compacting procedure. Could you lose one or more of your folders contents??? TIA "B.W." (del xxx) wrote in message ... Maximum mailbox size
Each folder (includes subfolders) has its own dbx database file. There is a
theoretical size limit of 2 GB for each dbx file. The dbx file will become corrupted before reaching that size. -- Ronald Sommer "B.W." (del xxx) wrote in message ... Yes, OE has a self-destruct feature that is enhanced by antivirus software
(see points 2 and 3 he www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#2) In addition, backup frequently as your hard drive could also fail and then you would lose your messages forever. Generally a dbx file should exceed a few hundred megabytes, or else it gets more likely to be corrupted. steve "B.W." (del xxx) wrote in message ... Another question on the same lines. Maximum mailbox size
Information about the maximum file size of the .dbx files that are used by
Outlook Express: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=903095 General OE Caveats: - Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local folders created for this purpose. - Empty Deleted Items folder daily. - Frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm - Do not cancel Automatic Compacting, should it occur, and do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if Automatic Compacting is taking place. - Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It can cause corruption (i.e., loss of messages) and provides no additional protection: Why you don't need your anti-virus to scan your email http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tuto...ning/index.htm -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Client - since 2002 B.W. wrote: I rea this information somewhere recently but now cannot find it. PS: Nothing in OE is called a "mailbox." Your email account may have a "max
mailbox size" but this has nothing to do with OE. steve,
You missed a not. Generally a dbx file should 'not' exceed a few hundred megabytes, or else it gets more likely to be corrupted. -- Ronald Sommer "Steve Cochran" wrote in message ...
