return to inbox after deleting a message
I am using Outlook Express 6 in Windows XP Home.
I do not like that OE automatically opens up the next message in my Inbox when I delete an open message. I would much rather OE return to the Inbox without opening another message when I delete an open message. Does anyone know of a way to accomplish this? Thanks in advance for any assistance provided. |

Your choices are limited.
Don't delete the previous message. Or, ToolsViewUncheck: Show Preview Pane. Or, add the PP button to the toolbar: Right click on the ToolbarCustomizeAdd the Preview Pane button. This will allow you to toggle the Preview Pane on and off. When it is off, all you will see are the message headers so you can delete mail before viewing it. -- Bruce Hagen ~IB-CA~ "Dan Spencer" wrote in message ... I forgot to include that I do not use the preview pane option of IE (I leave
this option turned off). I open the messages in their own window by double-clicking the message in the inbox, or highlighting the message and pressing the enter key. While I have a message open in its own window and delete the message (either by clicking the delete toolbar button, or by pressing ctrl-d), if another message is in my inbox after the current message the message window automatically opens that email into it instead of closing out the window and returning to the main inbox window. My work computer which has Outlook 2002 loaded on it has an option to select how the program will react when deleting an open message. You can open the next message, previous message, or return to inbox. That is the kind of option I am wanting to find in Outlook Express. Thanks, -Dan "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ... Outlook an OE are different programs as I'm sure you know. As far as
your question goes, AFAIK there is no way around this. I'm not sure what you want to accomplish, but what I do is to first, Read in plain text when I open my Inbox. You can switch between Plain text and HTML quickly with this tool: www.oehelp.com/OETool/ With the Preview Pane, (which I use) off, I delete any messages before they are displayed. Then I switch to HTML and view the messages I know I want to see. I know this isn't what you were looking for, but I hope it helps. OE doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles. -- Bruce Hagen ~IB-CA~ "Dan Spencer" wrote in message ... The work-around that I used to use is to hit the Esc key to close the message which was just read. That will put you back to your message list, with that message still highlighted, from where you can delete or move the message that you just read. After doing that, the next message in the list will be highlighted, ready to open. -- SgtRich Chicago, Illinois, USA |
