Default default line spacing before paragraph

I use powerpoint 2002 on Windows XP. I would like to set
the default line spacing before paragraph for new text
boxes. How do I do this?

I have tried making a new text box, selecting the text
box, selecting 'Format' then 'Line Spacing...', then
setting 'Before paragraph' to zero. This works fine for
this text box, but when I make a new text box it goes
back to 0.5. I have also tried right clicking on the
text box, once the line spacing is as I want it, and
selecting 'Set AutoShape Defaults'. This doesn't help.

Any ideas?

Hi Dan,

You need to modify the settings in the placeholder in the slide master.
Click on View, Master, Slide Master and make your changes to the text
placeholder.

Please note; this only works for the text boxes created by the slide
layouts. It's not going to make a difference for text boxes placed on the
slide in addition to the layout placeholders.

Hi Glenna,

Thanks, but I was wondering if there is a way to do this
for new text boxes placed on the slide. I don't use
textboxes on my slide layout, because for my
presentations, every slide is different.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Daniel

Dan, you might want to have a look at our ShapeStyles addin. There's a free
demo at http://shapestyles.pptools.com

Offhand, I'm not positive it'll pick up the linespacing but the demo will let
you test this thoroughly. If it doesn't work, we can talk.

If you set the line spacing on your text then right-click and select "set
autoshape defaults," those settings -- including the line spacing -- will
apply to text in *autoshapes*.

So the trick is to use the rectangle (on the drawing toolbar) instead of the
text box to add text to your slides. This isn't the way it *should* work
(IMO), but at least you can get your slides done. g

It's kinda odd, though. To test this, I set linespacing to .8 for the line
with 0 before and after. Then I set autoshape defaults on the right-click
menu. Autoshapes (e.g., rectangles, ovals, etc.) now use those .8/0/0
linespace settings. My textboxes, though, picked up the .8, but they still
have .5 before. The slide master uses .2 before, so I can't figure out where
the .5 is coming from!
