Standard deviations in Excel Charts
Does anyone know how to creat a line chart in Excel in which each data point
has its own standard deviation value? I need to enter them without calculating them from the spreadsheet. Excel will only let me have one standard deviation value for all data points. Any thoughts? |

Hi Marina -
You have X and Y in adjacent columns. Put the SD values in the next column. Plot the points. Format the points to bring up the Y Error Bar dialog. Choose Custom, and for the + and - error bar values, use the range containing the SD values in the worksheet. All you need to do is click in the edit box, then select the cells with the mouse. - Jon ------- Jon Peltier, Microsoft Excel MVP Peltier Technical Services Tutorials and Custom Solutions http://PeltierTech.com/ _______ Marina wrote: Does anyone know how to creat a line chart in Excel in which each data point has its own standard deviation value? As Jon pointed out indirectly, you cannot. To use a different value
for each point, you have to use the Custom option and that works only with a worksheet range; it ignores a named formula Of course, you can always hide the worksheet range where you calculate these values. -- Regards, Tushar Mehta www.tushar-mehta.com Excel, PowerPoint, and VBA add-ins, tutorials Custom MS Office productivity solutions In article , says...
