Newsgroup not downloading all messages

I seem to have a problem in that newsgroups don't get downloaded in there
entirely.

i.e. I will see 1233 downloaded, 134 not downloaded.

I reset the newsgroup back to zero and even deleted the news group but still
the messages won't download.

I will see only 1 message when I know there are more that that.

Is there some way to fix this problem?

I have a similar problem. The gurus are thinking on it, but try this:
subscribe to some new newsgroup, see if it downloads. Which groups don't
download new msgs? On my machine, any group I 'subscribed' to won't
download, but all other groups act normally.

It may well be your news server, but uncheck Get XXX headers at a time. Then
in Tools | Options | Maintenance | Clean Up Now, select the newsgroup(s) at
the top, and then Reset. Follow up with Compact.

Just did that and have the same problem.

I wonder if it's my news server. One way I can tell is use another newsgroup
reader.

Anyone recommend another besides Outlook Express?

OE uses an estimate which is sometimes wrong, so that the xxx not downloaded
is really not the case.
