multipage columns

I would like to set up a document with two columns so
that when I come to the end of colum one it doesn't
continue on column two, but instead continues on column
one on the next page.

I am a French student, and I am trying to copy in text to
a column on the left hand column of the document and then
put the translation on the right side.

My problem is that the text automatically breaks at end
of column one and then proceeds at the top of column 2,
instead of proceeding to column one of the next page.

Anyone know how to do this?

Hi Bob

For this sort of document, don't use the Format Columns feature. Instead,
use a two-column table, with one language in the left cell and the other
language in the right cell. Each time you need to have the texts in the two
languages line up, start a new row.

If you don't want lines around the cells, use Format Borders and Shading
to turn them off.

If the table gets long -- say, several dozen pages -- you may notice that
Word starts to get sluggish. Then it's time to split the table (in the Table
menu, use the Split Table command). Other tips for working with large tables
