Default Word 97--Formatting last numbered paragraph in table cell

I have a Word 97 document with numbered lists inside table cells, with no other paragraph following the last list item. In this case, I need to go through and change the paragraph formatting to affect ONLY the number on each list paragraph (adding color and bold).

This is easy enough for most of the paragraphs--just select the paragraph mark, and choose the desired formatting options. This doesn't work for the last item though, because there isn't a paragraph mark.

I know I've dealt successfully with this in the past, but today, for the life of me, can't figure out what I need to do to get that last paragraph to play nicely. I've tried all manner of inserting, combining, and deleting paragraphs. The only solution seems to be to put a formatted paragraph mark at the end of the list--but for layout reasons, this isn't an option.

What did I do, once upon a time, to format that last list number? (Just to reiterate, I only want the numbers on those paragraphs to change appearance.)

Have you tried selecting the end-of-cell marker?

I should have mentioned that I tried that too. It can't be selected... only an end-of-row marker will allow selection.

Rather than manually applying the formatting to paragraph marks, you can
(with the selection anywhere in that particular list) go to FormatBullets
and Numbering, click Customize, click Font, and make your settings there.
They will only be applied to the numbering, not to the manually typed text
that follows, and it will automatically apply to the whole list! If you
will need this formatting in several numbered lists, I recommend formatting
a style this way and applying the style to all those lists. Then, if you
needed to change the formatting again in the future, you could simply change
the style definition, and all the lists with that style applied would be
automatically updated to the new format settings!

Doh! I should have thought of that... I briefly thought of styles but mentally only took it as far as formatting the whole paragraph, including text, rather than just the numbering. What a sheep I can be... feeling sheepish, that is.

Thanks for the reminder.
