Default unwanted line in cell

I was putting a small underline (shift underline) in a
cell and an automatic underline across the whole cell was
made. It appears after the end of cell icon and I can not
delete it. Any help on why this appears and how to get rid
of it. Thanks

This is an automatic feature. When you type 3 underscores (or 3 ===) or
more and hit Enter, Word automatically applies a border style to the
paragraph.

To undo this as soon as it happens, do "Undo" (CTRL-Z, Edit menu). TO undo
it later, select the paragraph and apply No Border from the Border and
Shading dialog (Format menu).
To permanently turn this feature, you have to uncheck the Apply Borders from
the As you type tab that cab be accessed from the AutoText dialog box
(Insert menu) or, depending on your Word version, from the AutoCorrect
Options (Tools menu).

Underlines and equals aren't the half of it. See
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting...tRidOfLine.htm for the rest.
