Default Printing a large image-Pub 2002

Problem: I want to print a 34" x 70" image on my Epson 7800 printer which can
take paper as wide as 24". I am using roll paper. The image "should" tile and
print 2 images - one tile of 24" x 70" and another 10" x 70 (thereabouts,
give or take for border/overlap).

I have set up a paper size of 24" x 74" (the Epson driver requires a width
and a height even for roll paper).

When I view the image in Print Preview however, the image is cut into 4
tiles! The width (24" side) appears to look ok but it cuts off the length at
approx. the 48" mark (guessing as there are no rulers in print preview).

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Diana J was very recently heard to
utter:
I assume 2002 cannot convert files to .pdf?

Not natively.

I need Acrobat?

No, there are free/shareware converters such as PrimoPDF (www.primopdf.com)

For anyone interested, here is how I finally did a work-around:

I saved the file in Publisher as a TIF file.
Opened my image editor (in this case, Jasc PaintShop Pro but I suppose any
will do)
Saved 2 copies
Cropped one copy so the upper half showed the top 24" of the image-then
printed this
Cropped the other copy so that the lower portioned showed the remainder-then
printed this.

Why Microsoft ever put in a limit of 48" is so stupid. I guess that is why
they removed this limit after 2002.

I DID explain this. In earlier versions when testing and attempting to
print a page larger than 48", the program crashed.

In fact, it is exactly the 48" mark. There is a hard-coded limit in
Publisher as to the size of the maximum printable area. Beyond 48",
Publisher forces tiling, as when printing beyond this limit in early tests,
the size caused crashes and data loss.

Publisher 2003 with the latest updates does not have this issue when
printing as a PDF file.

Ed,

Are you sure this is fixed in Pub 2003? We've been trying to create a
poster, 36x60 using Publisher 2003 (11.8103.8107) SP2. I've tried PrimoPDF,
Neevia Docuprinter and PDFCreator as print drivers. No matter what I do, I
get the page cut off at 48" when I print preview, or print to the PDF. There
is no warning from Publisher.
Thanks,
Paul

It definitely works with Adobe PDF. I'm not sure about other PDF
drivers. The usual workarounds still work, though.

4 Years later, I needed this advice.
Apparently Publisher 2007 still doesn't like anything longer than 48 inches.
I made the pdf.. not using the Pdfmaker addin because it didn't like that
either. I used the Print button and chose the AdobePDF driver. I'm printing
it now via the pdf.
Thank Heavens for the forums!
