Default Table of Contents Error

Word 2000. Using the directions in Help, I do the following:
1. Click Insert
2. Click Index and Tables
3. Click Table of Contents
4. Click OK (accept the defaults)

I get the following message: Error! No table of contents entries found.

How do I get this to work?

Thanks, Phil

You need to either be using the built-in or other heading styles or have
actually marked entries for your TOC. See
