Default What's a docx file?

If you're running on Win 98, you're out of luck.

I'm using Word 2003. Is a docx file s 2007 file type. If so, how do I
read it with Word?

Yes, docx is the new default file format for Word 2007. Similarly,
Excel has a new xlsx format, and PowerPoint has a pptx format.

Download the Compatibility Pack
fromhttp://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=941B3470-3AE...
to enable Office 2003 applications to read and edit the new file
formats.

Does NOT appear to be run on Win98

Is there a way to get Office 2003 WORD to read these docx files?

I think Open Office will install on W98 - the latest version will read docx
files....

Make sure you check out "Open Office" before you spend a bunch of money
on another
Microsoft product. It's compatible with about everything, open source
and I think the
World is moving toward it!! Best of all - it's Free!!

It might be free, but has two problems.

1) By comparison it's very slow, even on a fast computer.
2) It doesn't render complex .docx file very well. (Simple ones okay, but
anything with a bit of complexity, no).

Disagree. Define "slow".......
