Access 2007 CPU always at 50%

I had a similar problem with slow response times and high CPU usage
after upgrading a 2003 version to 2007. It only happened when using
Overlapping Windows mode (as opposed to Tabbed Documents mode) and is
a bug in A2007. It was fixed by downloading the 'hotfix' from -
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943249/en-us

Now the CPU usage shows between 0% and 4% when a form is displayed
with no key or mouse activity. It may not fix your problem but it
might be worth a try.

Ok, thanks. It does not cause any other programs to run slow. As soon as it
is minimized or Access is not the active window, the cpu usage drops, which
is nice.

Interestingly, I just noticed that when a db is open, and I have a Table in
Design View, the CPU usage goes way down into single digits, but when in
Datasheet View it is up to 50%. When a Form is active, it is at 50% when in
Design, Layout, and Form View.

I was worried of a Virus, but all scans show I'm clean. I ran the Office
Diagnostics, and no problem. Might try a reinstall.

I've seen this hotfix and response problems. I just hadn't correlated
it with a CPU problem. Thanks for posting. Although the original
poster states this is with just A2007 open and no database files open.

I found a "solution" to this. I renamed my account folder in 'documents and
settings' and logged into my computer so it would create a new account
folder. This fixed the problem, I just had to copy over all of my favorites,
my documents and so on. It must be some strange little setting buried away
in the applications folder that causes the problem.

The solution is almost as stupid as the original problem.

Just for information,

I am experiencing the same problem with Access 2007 and I have found
one important thing - we have new IBM notebooks - IBM ThinkPad R61
(Intel CoreDuo2 2,1GHz) and on these computers - all of them - I can
see this problem. On Dell notebooks (tested on AMD Turion x64) all
Access 2007 works without this problem. I have seen, that you wirte,
that your computer is IBM T61 with Intel CoreDuo2 2,1GHz. Quite
strange, didn't it?

I have the same "problem". A new database completely empty but minimise it and it stops! I am fairly sure it did not used to happen. I have Process Explorer running and this monitors cpu usage.
