Outlook Express folders do not match .dbx files in Store folder
Certainly does (reduce the size of the inbox dbx file, after compaction --
which is what I mentioned -- when nearly empty). Same thing seen with other dbx files. E.g. my outbox may reach 10 MB if I don't compact, even when empty. On compaction when empty it becomes about 60 kB. And yes, I know one shouldn't archive messages in folders in constant use. 'Technically' the messages are awaiting filing elsewhere (as txt files) or are just reminders of action. I safeguard myself against loss by frequent back-ups. DAS To send an e-mail directly replace "spam" with "schmetterling" --- "Ron Sommer" wrote in message ... Moving messages out of a folder does not change the size of the dbx file. If the folder was that large, you should move the message to new folders. -- Ron Sommer "Dori A Schmetterling" wrote in message ... I have a large folder which is too large for compaction, it seems (my Inbox), so occasionally I move a large chunk of msgs out into a temporary folder, compact the remainder and move the other messages back. Sometimes I also compact the temp folder/s, though I am not sure if that adds benefit. I do not delete any folders in the process. Seems to work, anyway. Inbox always significantly smaller than before. I mention this because the OP speaks of trying to reduce the size of a folder. If simple compaction does not work -- which it should, since 50 MB isn't that much -- then the above procedure should. Unless I have missed something from the OP, regarding trying to reduce folder size... DAS -- To send an e-mail directly replace "spam" with "schmetterling" --- "Ron Sommer" wrote in message ... Yes, that and the date being 3/08/07. Doing a compaction will change the dbx file date to the compaction date. Outlook Express folders do not match .dbx files in Store folde
Your current Identity is very badly damaged, primarily due to your lousy
"housekeeping" in the past. Try one or more of your mail accounts in a new Named Identity... File | Identities | Add new identity NB: Do NOT name the new identity 'Main Identity' or include the work 'main' in the name! Assuming all is well, (1) compact all folders in the old identity, (2) import messages from the old identity's store into the new one, and then (3) delete the old identity (File | Identities | Manage Identities). To avoid such corruption in futu - Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local folders created for this purpose. - Empty Deleted Items folder daily. - Frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". Following some instructions fro here I moved all to a Temp file, deleted the Sent Items.dbx file and then moved all back from Temp to Sent Items. Now there is no Sent Items.dbx showing in Windows Explorer. If I search for the file it shows as in the Store folder with a size of 31MB (still way too large) but I cannot view it in Windoes Explorer. I also have a size problem with Inbox.dbx. There are only 42 messages showing yet the size is 62MB. How to get this all straightened out. What shows in OE is what I want to see, but the .dbx files really are a mismatch making it impossible to backup. Thanks in advance for your help. |

Outlook Express folders do not match .dbx files in Store folde
I did read your problem description completely. You may be able to retrieve
messages with this tool. DBXpress: http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/Default.aspx You may need to run it in the Extract From Disk Mode if its normal recovery mode fails to find the lost messages. As others have said, poor housekeeping of a not so reliable e-mail client is the cause. Among the things others have suggested, make sure you backup OE daily if you value its contents. This freeware tool backs up everything in OE in seconds. Disregard what is written in red. That is referring to a different program. Outlook Express Quick Backup (OEQB): http://www.oehelp.com/OEBackup/Default.aspx -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP [Mail] Imperial Beach, CA "daandehn" wrote in message ... There is only one Store folder and compaction has been carried out any time Outlook asks plus manually as well. File View options have been changed to view hidden files. There are .dbx files without corresponding folders in OE. These are folders that have been deleted in OE, but the .dbx file remains in the Store folder. 3.
